This year, the Research Presession has an added bonus on Monday with poster sessions from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Come view and discuss over 25 research projects and papers with fellow educators and researchers.
Follow up the poster sessions with the Research Presession's Opening Session. Magdalene Lampert from the University of Michigan will present "Maintaining Ambitious Teaching: Constraints, Affordances of Schools, Professional Education, Policy" from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This talk will report on research investigating what resources might make ambitious mathematics teaching the norm in U.S. schools, and what stands in the way. Lampert will examine intellectual, social, and material resources that could be common tools and language for a teaching practice, and illustrate the roles that these can play.To top off Monday night, join fellow attendees for a light reception from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the Sagamore Ballroom Lobby.
That's how our week will start. What will you attend first during week of the Annual Meeting and Research Presession?

I'm a first-year teacher who's very excited to attend my first NCTM conference. I was wondering, is there any kind of gathering planned in the program for LGBT educators?
David - there is nothing specifically targeted to LGBT educators. However, you may want to read about the programs and presentations in the New Teacher Strand (http://nctm.confex.com/nctm/2011AM/webprogram/attribute177.html)
