23 Days and Counting

It’s getting to be that time again – time for the NCTM Annual Meeting & Exposition. Teachers, administrators, math coaches and specialists, curriculum planners, teacher educators, new teachers and  those learning to be teachers will be convening in Indianapolis April 13-16. (Some will come even earlier to take part in the Research Presession.) With more than 650 presentations this year, all are sure to take away valuable learning, experiences, and contacts.

So why Indianapolis? Well, Indiana is the “Crossroads of America.” In horse and wagon days, Terra Haute was prominently located on the National Road, which became US Hwy. 40 in 1926. At about that time, a major north-south US Hwy. (Rte. 41) was commissioned, running from Chicago to Miami. Those two important roads intersected in downtown Terre Haute.

The state and Indianapolis itself now claim this distinction because of the 13 interstates in Indiana, five of which intersect the Indianapolis beltway.

Want more options? The Indianapolis International Airport (“Come here first. Get there fast.”) serves nine airlines and is less than a half-hour drive from the Indiana Convention Center.  The Amtrak Station (“We’ll get you there”)is literally across the street.

However you choose to make your way to the Annual Meeting, we certainly hope you’ll be there. (Still time to register…) Watch this blog for highlights, tips, the presenters, what to expect – anything we can think of to make your experience richer and more enjoyable.

Trivia: The state’s motto “Crossroads of America” was officially adopted by the General Assembly on March 2, 1937. Coincidentally (and only coincidentally), this was the same year that Blues legend Robert Johnson released the 78 rpm record “Cross Road Blues.”
